Skill and Vocational Training programme: Skill development should be one of the essential ingredients for India’s future economic growth as the country transforms into diversified and internationally –competitive economy. Skill development is going to be the defining element in India’s growth. Skill development that will help in producing a large number of skilled workers for the national needs as well for the international job market. Keeping this demand to meet certain extent we are giving skill training in various trades. We are focusing on Scholl dropout adolescent girls to make them self-reliant.We are empowering and giving training to young and adolescent girls,for which the organization has initiated a vocational training centres for equipping them with adequate technical skills, among them major focus were provided on need based trainings such as Garment Making (Tailoring), Hand and Machine Embroidery, Mehendi Designing and Beautician. Girls from the poor families have been successfully trained and linked to various firms and motivated to start their own units. During the training session the participants were also provided with adequate knowledge on marketing, enterprise development and Entrepreneurship development.
Linkages for Higher Education: The non-school going and dropout children, especially the girls from Muslim minority communities, are provided linkages to write Urdu Dani Course from 2nd – 8th standards. 300 and 400 girls have been successfully written these examinations and received passing certificates, further these girls will be linked for higher education through Open universities and correspondence courses.
Environmental awareness: Keeping informed about the adverse affects of de-forestation and increasing pollution in the urban towns and its surrounding urban areas. Community level awareness meetings on making the community members aware of the environmental hazards have been organized. The meetings were provided the participants adequate information on the causes of pollution and its control, tree plantation and other environmental friendly practices to preserve the environmental degradation in their areas. The environmental awareness campaign has covered 15 urban slums, and facilitated tree plantation program in 5 slums with an active involvement of 300 community members and children.
Women development programs: Towards empowering the women, we have organized various women development programs across the 25 slums of Hyderabad. The primary focussed interventions were on capacity and skill development among the young women for providing them better opportunities and to raise their levels of confidence in making their lives dignified. During the intervention, adequate training and resources were facilitated for the women. So far 300 women have been benefited through the program.
Community development programs: Focussed interventions on slum level development have been one of the significant efforts of the organization which has widely encouraged by the Ward Committees of the slums. The program featured involvement of the local youth and women monthly clean and green programs at the slums. Active role of Municipal Corporators and ward committee members have been enhanced through various trainings and workshops. As a result of these interventions 15slums are regularly taken up the initiatives.
Formation of self help groups: Since the inception of interventions of organization, the facilitation of women to form Self Help Groups is been in the priority. Every year the organisation has mobilizing lot number of women to form Self Help Groups. This year the organisation mobilized 150 women through 15 SHG groups. Apart from formation of the groups ASHA is also been conducting regular reviews, meetings and training sessions on Book Keeping practices, SHG management and resource mobilization skills.
Training for teachers: In the process of motivating and mobilization the teachers for effective promotion of child friendly environment at the government schools, ASHA has organized a phase wise teachers training programme involving 10 Government school teachers from the urban slums Hyderabad, during the programme the teachers were adequately oriented on the prevailing status of children, their rights, positive discipline, Right to Education Act and other themes have been covered. As a result of this many of the teachers are child friendly methods for teaching the children at their respective schools.
